While in South Africa my sister Suzette organised a fantastic documentary photography project. My desire to shoot a engineering manufacturing plant was finally realised and I managed to spend a day photographing at Erha Engineering based in Vanderbijlpark, South Africa.

The plant is huge and even with enormous windows flooding lots of light in, the shear size of the warehouses meant that many areas were in shadows and that lighting would again be a challenge.

I opted to shoot at a higher ISO because I didn’t want to use flash and overpower the available light and I did use my pop up flash on the Canon 7D when needing to fill in harsh shadows outside.

Many thanks to Erha Engineering for their time, and to Suzette for organizing this documentary opportunity for me, it was greatly appreciated.
