Over the last few weeks I’ve had the opportunity to photograph the Jacob’s Ladder Bridge by the Westhaven Marina for an upcoming award submission. What a stupendous structure, it spans across 10 lanes of Auckland’s busiest motorway. As daily user of our motorways I’m always amazed at the amount of consideration that goes into the planning, and construction of our city. Kudos to the creators of this magnificent structure.

The bridge is to provide a gateway statement to Auckland for travellers on the motorway, clad in a golden-coloured mesh network reminiscent of Maori fishing nets or fish traps, and will be lit up at night to provide a similar visual effect.

Jacob’s Ladder Bridge has such beautiful lines, and lights of the footbridge makes a visual invitation that no photographer can resist. I am sure that in the coming years photographers will be flocking to capture it’s beauty.
